The Umbagog Lake Region and National Wildlife Refuge with over 60 miles of privately groomed high elevation trails, have become the new home trail system of our international dogsledding experience. Both our Dogs and clients love these trips since it is like going on a “Wildlife Dogsledding Moose Safari” filled with tracks, scents, and sightings occurring regularly. For a Husky this environment is heaven on earth! For our clients it is an amazing submersion into a new world- the world of remote nature- being powered and “motored” through it by the most ancient of modes of transportation- sled dogs. The huskies will alert us to what is in the forests- they pick up speed when they scent something- If we are lucky today- it will be a Moose, or maybe a deer herd, or snowshoe hare, a roughed grouse, a coyote, fox, ermine, or believe it or not a beaver. We have seen all these creatures via dogsledding within this region. This is an unparalleled natural wilderness setting, similar to the wilds of the Rockies and Alaska’s mountain terrain,. This setting is truly a perfect location to run big teams of well trained Iditarod style sled dogs. This Umbagog trail system is known to have the most consistent snow cover in the North Eastern United States, because of its high elevation and northern location the snow conditions have consistently been the best in Northern New England. Only a 6 hour flight from Europe, and a mere 4 hour scenic drive from Boston, helps make our authentic dogsledding program here both of exceptionally quality and accessibility right here in the New England region.
Lodging packages options can be at the historic and remote Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge, or the Bethel Inn Resort, or the Grand Hotels on the mountain of Sunday River Ski area. Packages can include cross country and downhill skiing options along with horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing, skating, or snowmobiling- along with our great lodging and wonderful foods. This can be an “alternatively” Classic winter vacation of a lifetime- including some of the best of what the Winter world can offer right here in New England.
